I was inspired by my favorite DIY bloggers to make my own Christmas gifts this season. My sister wanted wall decor for her new apartment and these modern yarn decorations fit perfectly with her style. I got my direction from the Home Oh My! blog by Amy. She is super talented!
I loved her step by step directions (shown below).
The craft was moderately easy, mildly time consuming, but well worth it! My sister loved her gift.
Happy crafting :)
Materials
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Gold Rings 1.5" and 3"
- Super Glue
- Round Wood Dowel - mine was cut 14" and 7"
Cut a piece of yarn and folded it in half, then put it through the 1.5″ gold ring.
I don't have exact measurements for the yarn. I just made sure the string was long enough before knotting it tight.
Taking the loose ends of the string, pull them through the yarn loop and then pull down, but not all the way.
I kept it loose like shown in the above right photo.
With another half-folded piece of yarn, this time knotted at the other end, then tie a lark’s head knot around the 3″ ring., pulling it tight.
Connect and knot the larger gold ring to the smaller ring before tying it to the wood dowel.
Next, tie the loose ends to the wood dowel. Use super glue to secure knots.
Final result.
Cut the yarn to be all the same length (about 15 inches). Make sure to account for the knot. It will shorten the left over yarn when pulled tight so cut it longer than you think!
Attach the yarn by making a Lark's Head knot. Follow the photo above.
Hack away like a hairdresser to achieve the perfect triangle shape.
