Recently, two of my good friends came to visit my roomie and I in Austin, and it was one hilariously, fun weekend.
If feels like just yesterday we were roaming the halls of Carmel High School, sharing our lockers in the senior hallway, gossiping in the lunch room and rolling our eyes at the idea that we may actually have to grow up soon and graduate.
On one hand, it's hard to believe that we graduated five plus years ago. On the other hand, so much has happened since the day we first stepped into the newly built freshman center, it seems as if an eternity has gone by.
Having two of my good friends visit me was beyond humbling. I loved showing them around the new city that has become my home. Since we spent the weekend laughing until our stomachs hurt and reminiscing on being 17, I didn’t get a chance to tell them how thankful I am for their friendship.
So, I wrote a thank you note to all my good high school friends (you know who you are).
Thank you for sticking by my side through the good and the bad. Although, we are spread out across the country there is nothing more comforting than knowing no matter how far apart we live you will always have my back.
Thank you for loving me for me. We are all so incredibly different, but that is what makes our friendships beautiful.
Thank you for sharing your beliefs and your ideas about life with me. Our late night conversations changed how I perceive the world, even when we disagreed. To see people so passionate about their beliefs, past and outlook on life has been incredibly inspiring.
Thank you for being there for all my “firsts.” From my first car, to my first heartbreak to my first time sneaking out of my house… we have been together through it all.
Thank you for always making me laugh like crazy. No matter what the situation is we always find a way to laugh about it, and I couldn’t appreciate that more.
And thank you in advance for the major life moments we are going to experience in the future. I am looking forward to celebrating every milestone - from new jobs to weddings, babies and 40th birthdays - together.
Although life has led us all down different paths, I want to make sure you know this doesn’t make you any less important in my life. You all have helped shape me into the person I am today. For that, I can never thank you enough. We may not talk every day, week or month but whenever we do talk or see each other it is like no time has passed. Until then, I love you all.
